A heat pump dryer works much like an air conditioner in reverse. A small compressor heats the air, which passes through the drum and absorbs moisture from the laundry. The damp air then flows over a cool evaporator, where the moisture condenses into water and is drained away or collected. The same air is reheated and sent back through the drum in a closed loop. Because no hot, damp air leaves the machine, no external vent or wall opening is needed. This makes it ideal for apartments in Beirut and across Lebanon, where the dryer often sits in a cupboard, bathroom or enclosed laundry room. It also dries at lower temperatures than a conventional dryer, which is gentler on fabrics and reduces shrinkage. All of the ASKO dryers we sell in Lebanon use heat pump technology.

This is one of the questions we hear most often from clients in Lebanon. Once the cycle is underway, our ASKO heat pump dryers typically draw around 2.5 amps, far less than a conventional vented or condenser dryer. This is because the heat pump recycles warm air rather than heating fresh air continuously. They run from a standard socket and sit comfortably alongside your other appliances.

You can choose. The water can drain away automatically, either through the washing machine's drain or through a separate drain connection, so there is nothing to empty. Alternatively, it collects in a built-in container that you empty after drying; on the 11 kg model this holds 6.5 litres. The collected water is also used to rinse the condenser filter automatically, which keeps maintenance to a minimum.

No. Moisture sensors monitor the laundry throughout the cycle and stop the programme as soon as the selected dryness level is reached. Butterfly Drying tumbles clothes in a figure-of-eight to stop them bundling together. An anti-crease function keeps the drum turning gently at intervals if you can't unload right away.

Beyond cotton, synthetics and mixed loads, ASKO dryers offer programmes for wool, shirts, jeans, sportswear, bedding and down. They also include an anti-allergy programme, steam refresh to freshen clothes without washing, and steam wrinkle care to reduce ironing. A Quick Pro programme dries a small cotton load quickly.

Very little. A multi-filter system captures lint before it reaches the heat pump, and the condenser filter cleans itself automatically. Day to day, you simply empty the lint filter, and the water container if the dryer isn't connected to a drain.
